Summer Programming 2024

What is Camp SOAR?

Camp SOAR is the summer programming option for Syble Hopp students that are 17 years old and younger. Students are grouped in small classes that rotate through different Specials taught by passionate Syble Hopp staff. This summer our Specials include: arts and crafts, gardening, cooking, sensory, swimming, movement, and grocery/clerking (older students working on vocational skills while younger students are working on shopping for ingredients for their cooking class). Syble Hopp students will have Community Based Instruction (CBI) opportunities similar to the school year with an emphasis on outdoor recreation. We're currently working on coordinating some additional experiences that would connect our Syble Hopp students with area high school students who help facilitate these events and make them more memorable.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are looking for area high school or college students that are interested in volunteering with our Camp SOAR program. Our program benefits from having individual volunteers supporting classrooms by helping staff facilitate experiences for our students. We're also looking for groups of high school volunteers that would help facilitate unified events (Unified Cornhole Tournament, Unified Dance, and Unified Outdoor Recreation Experience). If you'd like to learn more about these opportunities, please reach out to Joe Klicka at jklicka@syblehopp.org. The following documents have to be on file prior to you volunteering for Camp SOAR: volunteer form, background check, and a confidentiality agreement.

Independent Living Experience

We are currently designing and creating a program option for Syble Hopp School students that are 18 years old and older. In this pilot program, groups of SHS students (2-4) will stay two days and nights at the school's duplex under the guidance of a duplex supervisor and a duplex aide working on community living skills, functional academic skills, and embedded skills that are aligned with our Syble Hopp School Functional Curriculum.

Summer 2024 Family Outings

Family Outings are great opportunities for any of our Syble Hopp students to come and enjoy a community experience with a parent or care giver and also interact with other Kangaroos.  These events are free of charge to families.  In past years, our family outings have gone sailing, to the beach, to the park, Botanical Gardens, NEW Zoo, and many more.  If you would like to be a part of Family Outings, just sign up when the link is available and Paige Yang will provide details regarding each of the outings and you can sign up for them individually if they are the right fit for your child and family.  If you have any questions, please email Paige Yang.
