CAMP SOAR UPDATE FOR 2026

We want to share an important update regarding Camp SOAR for Summer 2026.

Our building renovations were officially approved earlier this month. While this is exciting news for our community, the scope of construction—impacting approximately two-thirds of the building—will affect our ability to operate Camp SOAR as usual this summer.

At this time, we are working diligently with contractors to map out a detailed renovation timeline. Once this schedule is finalized, we will be able to determine whether we can offer an abbreviated version of Camp SOAR in June. We know at this time that we will not be able to host Camp SOAR in July due to construction.

We anticipate having more concrete information to share by mid-February and will communicate with families via IC as soon as those details are confirmed. In the meantime, we wanted to notify you as early as possible so you have time to explore alternative summer arrangements and connect with your county social workers if needed. During the summer of 2026, we will be renovating the 1971 wings of the building—the areas that face Scheuring Rd. These wings include all K–5 classrooms and a large portion of the 6-Transition classrooms.

The project will include classroom updates, renovations to classroom bathrooms, improvements to public restrooms in the 1971 wing, some locker room upgrades and various internal and external maintenance upgrades. As a result, portions of the building will be closed throughout the summer months to accommodate the renovations. These improvements will help modernize our learning spaces and enhance the overall experience for our students and staff.

What is Camp SOAR?

Camp SOAR is the summer programming option for Syble Hopp students who've completed kindergarten and that are 17 years old and younger. Students are grouped in small classes that rotate through different Specials taught by passionate Syble Hopp staff.  Syble Hopp students will have Community Based Instruction (CBI) opportunities similar to the school year with an emphasis on outdoor recreation. We're currently working on coordinating some additional experiences that would connect our Syble Hopp students with area high school students who help facilitate these events and make them more memorable.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are looking for area high school or college students that are interested in volunteering with our Camp SOAR program. Our program benefits from having individual volunteers supporting classrooms by helping staff facilitate experiences for our students. If you'd like to learn more about these opportunities, please reach out to Caroline Mihalski at cmihalski@syblehopp.org. The following documents have to be on file prior to you volunteering for Camp SOAR: volunteer form, background check, and a confidentiality agreement.
